History of the Zagroda Kołodzieja
The columns with decorative carving were reinforced with short, arched swords. The mansard roof, stone bands, portal and shutters and tufted elements.
Until 1946
our house was inhabited by one multi-generational Stephan family, engaged in wheelwrighting. After the war, five more Polish families lived there. We dedicated commemorative plaques to all the families in the hallway of our house. We still keep in touch with the living residents to this day, and their visits are always a great event for us.

Translocation
The story of the translocation of the Przysłup House from the village of Wigancice Żytawskie began in the summer of 1996. The sight of the picturesque village, completely liquidated for the planned spoil heap of KWB "Turow" on its territory, aroused incredible sadness. Hastily dismantled by the local population, the houses were being irretrievably lost from the landscape, for which they were the foundations of several hundred years of tradition.
It was then that the remarkable idea of moving the house was born…
The translocation of the wheelwright's house from Wigancice Zytawskie to Zgorzelec took place in 2005.
2005
The work began with the removal of the roof tiles, which, after cleaning, were used as flooring material for the floor of the new house.
The dismantling of the structure took just three days.
The building's relocation required the involvement of specialized equipment hired from ELTUR TRANS of Bogatynia.
The transport of the oversized cargo was piloted by the Zgorzelec Police Department.
For the next 14 days...
The wooden structure of the house was subjected to a cleaning and maintenance process. For the translocation, 520 structural elements of the house were inventoried, of which 6 were replaced...
There are 66 windows throughout the house, 80% of which are original woodwork. Stone detail like the entrance portal, window and door bands have been re-installed. Similarly, the tufted detail, all the grilles, the door to the dark chamber, lightning rods and gutter brackets have remained original.

Next step..
was the assembly of the skeleton, which took 9 days. Before the wooden structure was assembled, the basement - the "0" state - and the brick part of the first floor were built.
2014-2015
We have begun the expansion of Zagroda Kołodzieja to include banquet halls and additional rooms.
2014
During a visit to Zgorzelec on April 16, 2014, President of the Republic of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski was received by Mayor Rafal Gronicz at Zagroda Kołodzieja. Among the guests present were min. Minister of Culture and National Heritage Bogdan Zdrojewski, Marshal of Lower Silesia Cezary Przybylski. Senator Jan Michalski, Parliamentarians: Grzegorz Schetyna, Malgorzata Sekula-Szmajdzinska, Zofia Czernow, District Governor Artur Bilinski and others.
During this meeting I was asked to tell the guests about the history of the translocation of the wheelwright's house from Wigancice Żytawskie to Zgorzelec and about the land of half-timbered houses. During my short speech I had the opportunity to thank, on behalf of the owners of the half-timbered houses, Minister Bogdan Zdrojewski for lighting the green light (after the flood in Bogatynia) and Marshal Cezary Przybylski. Thanks to this, over the past 3 years, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage together with the Marshal's Office have supported the renovation of 9 half-timbered houses. I also addressed words of thanks to Mrs. Zofia Czernow, MP, Senator Jan Michalski, Councilman of the Sejmik Józef Kozłowski. I tried to appreciate all those on whom we could indeed count in obtaining support for their renovations."

"Finally, I addressed the esteemed board with the words, quote, "today the Land of Half-timbered Houses triumphs, because I have the suspicion to believe that there is the first visit of a head of state to a half-timbered house. Which, in turn, confirms our conviction that it is possible to live in these old wooden houses with dignity, conduct business and realize your passions and dreams."
Today there is nothing left of the village of Wigancice Zitavskie. Zagroda Kołodzieja was the last witness to the life that had been vibrant here for centuries. With its demolition, an era was closed. However, by saving it from destruction and moving it to a new location, some sliver of that reality will continue. The house, though inscribed in a new place, will tell us about past history. Perhaps it will remind someone of their childhood days, or maybe it will become an excuse to meet after years.
From the village, along with the house, were taken the trees growing in the neighborhood, the miraculously surviving granite pillars and the old toy window of the house left behind.
